February 22, 2018Target in Space to ‘Arrow 3’
The US Missile Defense Agency and the Israel Missile Defense Organization successfully completed a flight test of the Arrow 3 weapons system on 19 February. The test was conducted at a test site in central Israel and was led by Israel Aerospace Industries, in collaboration with the Israeli air force.
Designed to defend against ballistic missiles outside of the atmosphere, Arrow 3 intercepted a simulated target in space. First, the target was detected by the weapon system's radar. The data was then transmitted to the interception management centre, and the “Arrow 3” missile was launched.
Arrow 3 interceptors were delivered to the Israeli air force in January 2017 for operational use.
