Taiwan has unveiled its new amphibious vessel, which has long undergone modernization and replacement of platforms in South Asia under increasing pressure from China.
The ship, which was scheduled to be deployed to the islands in the South China Sea for a troop landing and logistical support operation, was named Yu Shan.
With 10,600 tons of displacement, Yu Shan will be equipped with air defence and ground missiles and Phalanx.
