Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (“KONGSBERG”) has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) covering the delivery of PROTECTOR Remote Weapon Stations (RWS), which are of critical importance especially for the Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) armored vehicles.
The value of this strategic agreement exceeds 400 million Swedish kronor (SEK), and there is potential for this figure to grow further with additional RWS units to be ordered in the future.
PROTECTOR RS4: Next-Generation CV90 Capability
The weapon station ordered has been specified as the PROTECTOR RS4, a modernized version of the reliable “PROTECTOR Nordic” variant currently used by the army. The system brings with it many significant features such as integrated sensors and the capability to operate various weapon systems — under vehicle armor — at longer ranges.
Extensive Modernization Plan
This procurement meets the Swedish Armed Forces’ need for remote-controlled weapon stations for three different CV90 variants. In addition, it is planned to provide RWS units for the army’s other armored vehicles as well. KONGSBERG’s weapon stations had previously been purchased for the CAVS 300 and Archer 8×8 vehicles.
