The recently strained US-Russian relations have Sweden to take action for a new regional risk assessment study. The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) has launched a new study to keep up with the latest developments in nuclear weapons and to assess the likelihood of nuclear weapons use in both Sweden and neighboring countries.”Political statements, as well as various countries' modernization programs will be given more attention in the study than the purely technical abilities,” the agency said in the press release.
Given that the main objective is to identify and analyze the possibility of nuclear weapons use in European territories in the future, agency officials expressed that they will also seek answers to more specific questions.
