Steel Cut For Third Ford-class Carrier

The steel cutting ceremony for the US Navy new aircraft carrier, the future USS Enterprise (CVN 80) at Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipyard on 24 August. CVN 80 will be the third Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, the lead ship of which is USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) commissioned on 22 July. 

The Gerald R. Ford class incorporates advances in technology such as a new reactor plant, propulsion system, electric plant, Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS), Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG), machinery control, Dual Band Radar and integrated warfare systems.
