Foreign Economic Relations Board (Dış Ekonomik İlişkiler Kurulu/ DEİK) Chairman Nail Olpak and Turkey-USA Business Council (Türkiye-ABD İş Konseyi/ TAİK) Chairman Mehmet Ali Yalcindag met with U.S. Republican Party Senator Lindsey Graham on a video conference call.
During the meeting, Graham discussed what Turkey and the United States need for the economic integration process, and noted the importance of reaching a free trade agreement between the two countries.
Graham said the White House wants to lay the groundwork for the sustainable economic relationship with the Free Trade Agreement, and said the biggest obstacle to this is the S-400 air defence system, the F-35 program and the Syrian issue. He stressed that Congress is committed to the S-400 and that the restructuring must be resolved urgently.
Economically, the United States wants to work with Turkey in the African market. The White House, which wants to break China's dominance in the region, plans to go to an alternative solution with Turkey in Africa.
Russia stressed for the second time that it is ready for a new contract for the S-400 systems. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said on Wednesday (June 24th) that Turkey is ready to sit down for a deal if it wants to buy a new party system.
