Russia the Il-22PP electronic warfare aircraft, may soon get an upgrade and a brand-new air-frame. “Porubshchik” , used by the Russian armed forces to disrupt enemy communications and radar systems was put in service in 2016. The aircraft which is based on an outdated Il-18 civilian design cannot fully serve to recent threats with its old school design. Tupolev’s Tu-214 and Ilyushin’s Il-76 are new candidates for nee aircraft body. New aircraft is called Porubshchik-2 by industry but there is no official name yet.
