Russians have chosen names for the country’s newest weapons by participating in a nationwide competition on the Defense Ministry’s website. The competition began after Russian president Vladimir Putin State of the Nation Address to the Federal Assembly on 1 March.
“Burevestnik” (Stormbringer) was chosen as the name for the state-of-the-art nuclear-powered cruise missile after 34,8 percent of participants voted for it. The nuclear-powered underwater drone capable of blasting coastlines with a nuclear device has been christened as Poseidon and the new combat laser complex has been named “Peresvet”.
