Russian Ministry of Defence is due to sign the contract to order A-100 Premier Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW & C) radar aircraft to replace the 4 A-50U and 22A-50M the Russian Air Force now has.
According to the President of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slyusar, the serial production of the A-100 Premier (AEW & C) is about to commence soon after signing the contract until 2019, aiming to integrate the aircraft into its potential Russian Air Force in 2020.
The A-100 Premier (AEW & C) uses the Il-776MD-90A and can monitor and capture overhead targets and coordinate air operations against land and naval airplanes.
The A-100 Premier (AEW & C) exploits a new phased array radar that can detect 600 km of aerial targets and 400 km of warships.
Additionally, the aircraft has an advanced electronic warfare system, advanced communications system and electronic collection information.
The first A-100 Premier (AEW & C) aircraft made its flight in November 2017.
