The US gave Romania greenlight for the acquisition of Patriot air defense systems with an estimated cost of $3,9 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified the congress on 10 July on this possible foreign military sales.
Romanian Government looks to purchase seven Patriot Configuration-3+ Modernized Fire Units and related support and equipment. The contract also covers ammunition, radars, control station, antenna, launching stations and power plants. Raytheon and Lockheed Martin will be the prime contractors.
