January 16, 2018Radar Defect Will Cost Belgium 18 Months
Belgium's four new NH-90 helicopters will be grounded from next week due to a radar defect. Acquired in 2015 to replace Sea Kings, the Belgian Air Force NH-90s will be out of operational use for up to a year and a half owing to their defective radar system. The staff operating the aircraft have said that the radar was automatically shutting off and must be repaired by the manufacturer. Belgium's Sea King helos are scheduled to retire in 2019 after 40 years of service.
