Prometey Will Enter Inventory in 2020

Russian Aerospace Forces plan to introduce S-500 Prometey surface-to-air missile systems into its inventory by the end of 2020, according to the service's commander Lt. Gen. Victor Gumenny. Almaz-Antey Deputy CEO Vyacheslav Dzirkaln had previously revealed at MAKS-2017 that the new system had successfully passed the basic part of trials and the system was now proceeding towards the final stages of testing.

Developed by Almaz-Antey company, S-500 systems are claimed to be capable of intercepting up to 10 ballistic targets simultaneously. The new weapon, which will form the upper tier of Russia’s layered integrated air defence system, is expected to be able to engage targets at altitudes of about 660 thousand feet. S-500's estimated range is 600 km.
