Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) has displayed a scale model of the Project 17A (P-17A) frigate at the Defexpo 2018. The platforms, 149 metres in length with a beam of 17,8 metres, displace about 6,673 tonnes. Powered by two General Electric LM2500 gas turbines, and two MAN 12V28/33D STC diesels driving two shafts in a combined diesel or gas (CODOG) arrangement, Project 17A can reach a top speed of 28 kt. The frigates have a 5,500 nautical miles range with a cruising speed of 18 kt. 

Project 17A will be armed with launchers for the Indo-Israeli Barak-8 or Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM) missile system, a 76 mm Oto Melara gun and two AK-630M close-in weapon systems.
