Argentina has acted on the submarine. The Ministry of Defence considers after the loss in November 2017 ARA San Juan, a TR 1700 class diesel-electric submarine, to continue construction work of ARA Santa Fe. According to the information given to the Argentine Congress, studies continue to build a nuclear variant of Santa Fe.

ARA San Juan constructed in the the 1980 and she was the core of the Argentine submarine power during ARA Santa Cruz's ongoing modernization efforts. ARA Santa Cruz's modernization work is planned to be completed by the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. Construction work of the third platform Santa Fe also began in the 80's, but at the beginning of the 90's, construction works was stopped when it was 70% completed.
