Sniper rifles are one of the most important weapons needed by every regular or irregular element with the possibility of precise shooting at long range.
The Canadian Army took action to replace the C8 sniper rifles in the Army inventory. The new weapon was announced as the C20, according to a Canadian military official.
The C20s designed by Colt Canada were developed in line with the needs of the Canadian Army. Weapon was selected within the scope of “Sniper System Project” in August 2019. 275 to 300 pieces of rifle will be procured in the first place. On February 28, 2020, the company signed a USD 2 million contract with the Canadian Government to establish a mass production line.
Unit cost of rifles still unknown. Weapons use 7.62×51 mm NATO ammunition. Direct gas impingement semi-automatic mechanism was preferred in guns with a single piece upper receiver. The weapons, whose weight is reduced in this way, can be equipped with a chrome lined barrel in line with the request of the user. The C20 has the MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail that allows the integration of different optical and electrooptic equipment on top of the receiver. The side and bottom parts of the rifle are in a modular M-Lok structure that allows different equipment to be attached. LMT DMR adjustable buttstock was preferred in the gun, which prioritizes user ergonomics. The C20, which can shoot precisely with the Geiselle SSA double stage trigger, weighs 4.1 kg. The muzzle velocity of the gun, which has a 44.7 cm long barrel, 4 groove-sets and a sensitivity of 0.66 MOA, is 731 meters/second when C181 ammunition used. The C20 has completed 8,000-round shooting trials and tested in NATO D/14 standards. Optionally, the QSS QD7.62 suppressor can be attached to the rifle.
