ELTA Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), introduced the new passive coherent location (PCL) system.
PLCs, which do not have active transmitters in their structure, detect and position air threats using signals released from non-collaborator transmitters. The passive coherent location system, which also calculates the speed and acceleration of the target, offers real-time mapping support to forces.
The system can be deployed as an additional layer for air control radars.
IAI explained that the new PLC secretly detects and monitors air targets using analogue FM broadcasting and Digital Audio Broadcasting, and does so without emitting any energy.
