Marine Corps Systems Command officials announced with a press release that US Marine Corps will replace all previous handguns that have been in service since the time of former US President Ronald Reagan’s administration. The US Marine Corps will issue SIG Sauer M18 pistols to its agents. In the past, Marines received either the M9, M9A1, Colt M45A1, Glock 19M along with other versions.
The Marine is planning the conclude replacement programme by the fiscal year 2022. The United States Army announced that a customized version of the SIG Sauer P320 had won the Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition. The full-sized model will be known as the M17 and the smaller-sized carry model will be known as the M18.
