Ukraine-based Ukroboronprom introduced a new generation armored vehicle. Infantry fighting vehicle developed by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau was introduced under the name BMP-u.
The design documentation and prototype production of the BMP-U, which is developed to replace aging BMP-1 and BMP-2 armored vehicles, is scheduled for completion in 2019.
The BMP-U was developed for the transport of land troops and for providing fire support to the troops. The platform, which is managed by a crew of three, has seven personnel capacity. According to calculations made, the vehicle provides 10-12% higher protection from BTR-4. 735 hp diesel engine and automatic transmission will be placed at the front of the vehicle. Weight of the platform will be between 25-27 tons. BMP-U, which is planned to overcome water obstacles, will be equipped with a BM-8 combat module and a 30-millimeter gun. In addition to the gun, automatic grenade launchers, machine guns and anti-tank missiles will be among the other weapons in the vehicle. Thanks to the modular design, a new vehicle family will be developed from BMP-U needs for different tasks.
