The Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) has ordered a new Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft for NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). Following Luxembourg's decision to maximise its participation in the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker and Transport Fleet programme (MMF), OCCAR decided to purchase the new aircraft. With this decision, NATO's MMF fleet will have a total of nine aircraft; air-to-air refuelling, strategic transport and medical evacuation needs.
The MMF programme is funded by the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Germany, Belgium and Czechia. The tanker pool, which emerged through the program, will provide air-to-air refuelling support to participating countries during predetermined flight times.
