The NATO Defense Ministers Meeting was held in Brussels with the participation of defense ministers from 32 allied countries. Discussions focused on regional defense and security cooperation, defense spending, increasing Russian airspace violations, and support for Ukraine.
National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, visiting Brussels for the meeting, first visited the NATO Permanent Representation and the NATO Turkish Military Delegation (TMR) Headquarters. Güler received briefings on ongoing activities from NATO Permanent Representative Ambassador Basat Öztürkand TMR Chief Lieutenant General Kemal Turan.
Minister Güler held abilateral meetingwithUK Defense Secretary John Healey. He also participated in atrilateral meetingwith Romania’s Defense Minister Liviu-Ionut Mosteanuand Bulgaria’s Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, where they evaluated regional security, defense cooperation, and joint projects under NATO.
Güler joined the traditional “Family Photo” with NATO defense ministers and later participated in the signing ceremony for the “Letter of Intent for the Fire Excellence Center”alongside allied ministers.
In Brussels, a “Distributed Synthetic Training High Visibility Project Memorandum of Understanding” was also signed. According to NATO, the project aims to strengthen interoperability of allied nations in multinational and digitally based training environments. The new system will allow units from different countries to train simultaneously in the same virtual environmentusing simulation technologies.
After the main session, the ministers proceeded to the informal NATO–Ukraine Council Meeting. This session was attended by defense ministers from 32 NATO member countries as well as Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denis Shmyhal. Minister Güler also represented Türkiye at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group Meeting.
