Mexico is buying an 8-cell MK56 VLS launcher and Evolved Seasparrow (RIM-162) Missiles (ESSM) for its new Sigma 10514 Class corvette, a US Defence Security Cooperation Agency statement has said.
The State Department has decided approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Mexico of six Evolved ESSM and two Evolved Seasparrow telemetry missiles for an estimated cost of $41 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on August 8, 2018. The total estimated value is $41 million.
Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) is a development of the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile.
The announcement follows an earlier one in which the government of Mexico requested the sale of RGM-84L Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles, Block II Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) surface-to-air missiles and MK 54 Mod 0 lightweight torpedoes.
