Philippines is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia, in order to strengthen defence ties between two countries through military acquisitions and joint exercises. Philippines' Secretary of Defence Delfin Lorenzana said that the agreement would also allow regular visits of troops and ships to Russia. Lorenzana will accompany Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte for his official visit to Moscow in April or May, when they hope to sign the MoU. Russia is reportedly offering a range of military equipment and platforms including ships, submarines, aircraft, and helicopters. Philippines is also interested in acquisition of sniper rifles from Russia.
