The loitering munitions, systems that enter our literature as kamikaze ammunition, especially increase their effectiveness in high numbers. When the products in question are shown as the concept of the future, when used in high numbers, destruction becomes inevitable for hostile elements. The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) began testing the Gray Wolf missile and turbojet engine, developed as loitering munition. The propulsion system, the stock name TDI-J85, was developed in collaboration with Northrop Grumman and AFRL, and In initial activities such as numerous engine start-ups and high-altitude operations were carried out during the flight.

In the statement made by AFRL, it was stated that the engines were tested sufficient time during the flight and met the expectations regarding thrust and fuel efficiency. In the future, Gray Wolf will offer a cost-effective solution for task requirements within network-centric loitering conditions. The US Air Force is requesting 250 NM range cruise missiles for use in different missions. In this context, an R&D agreement costs to 110 million USD was signed between AFRL and Northrop Grumman in 2017.
