Leonardo has been awarded a contract to provide information management software for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN’s) fleet of Collins-class submarines. Announced by the company on 5 October, the contract with an undisclosed value covers installation of Leonardo's Smart Information Dissemination & Management Services (SmartIDMS) on Australia's subs. 

Smart IDMS is a bearer-agnostic data prioritisation and dissemination management tool that utilises Cloud Technology; and allows users automatically to prioritise and manage the transfer of data, minimising bandwidth usage. SmartIDMS is a combination of the company’s Intelligent Information Dissemination (I2D) product and the SVGC Information Management Unit (IMU) currently deployed on UK RN submarines.
