The US Navy's Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) has conducted a live-firing exercise on 11 May launching Longbow Hellfire missiles as part of the Surface-to-Surface Missile Module (SSMM) developmental testing. USS Milwaukee fired four missiles successfully hitting fast inshore attack craft targets.
This marks the completion of the first phase of the Surface-to-Surface Missile Module (SSMM) developmental testing for the LCS mission modules program. Initial operational capability and fielding of the SSMM are expected in 2019.
