Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced today on its official twitter account that the Laser Defence System (LSS), developed by ASELSAN and capable of destroying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with its high-power laser beam, will be exhibited for the first time at IDEF 2017.

The system is designed for threats of mini and micro unmanned aerial vehicles directed at critical facilities up to a 500-meter range, and improvised explosives (IED) and suspected elements on the roadside at over 200 meters. The system consists of a fiber laser source with high laser output power, a focusing fire controller, an infrared/day camera, a laser telemeter, a steering unit, related power/control electronics, software, cooling and power generation and storage subcomponents.
