The Japanese Ministry of Defence decided to replace its aging FH-70s. A new study by the Department of Defence's Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) has been conducted to take FH70's place. In the scope of this study, a 155 millimeter 52 caliber howitzer with an 8×8 MAN truck chassis has developed. The platform is equipped with a on board computer, an inertial navigation system and aiming systems. The vehicle which is 11.4 meters long, 3.4 meters high and 2.5 meters wide, is planned to be managed by a crew of five.
FH70's the development work began in the 1960s and the first order was taken in 1978. FH-70 is managing by crew of 8. The howitzer, which has a 38-caliber barrel, can shoot a standard ammunition of 43.5 kilograms, including high-explosive explosives, with a range of 24,7 kilometers.
