It came to the fore that the USA offered Indonesia for logistics request of P-8 Poseidon, but Indonesia rejected the offer. According to four senior Indonesian officials, the proposal, which included the US maritime surveillance P-8 Poseidon landing in Indonesia and refuelling, was rejected.

Despite the expansionist policy of the United States and China in Southeast Asia, Indonesia favours neutrality in foreign policy and will never be allowed to host foreign forces in their countries, officials said.

The P-8 plays an important role in tracking China's military activities in the South China Sea. Indonesia and China, on the other hand, have an economic connection with financial investments.

Providing support for classic maritime surveillance missions as well as electronic intelligence (ELINT) and aerial command control, the P-8 Poseidon was developed from Boeing's 737-800 commercial aircraft.

Apart from the USA, Australia, India, United Kingdom, Republic of Korea, Norway and New Zealand chose the P-8 Poseidon for maritime patrol duties.
