India will import US$ 105 million worth of assault rifles. The rifles, which will be purchased from SIG SAUER, came up at a time of heightened tensions between India and China.
In early 2020, India announced that it was trying to buy 72,000 SIG716 assault rifles from the United States. New Delhi has previously purchased 72,400 SIG716G2 rifles from SIG SAUER; 10,000 units of weapons reached India in December 2019.
