India Tests Multi Barrel Pinaka Guided Weapons System

India test fired the Pinaka guided rocket system at Pokhran desert in the north-western state of Rajasthan.

The rocket system was tested three times since Monday, twice on 11 March and once the following day at Pokhran desert, Rajasthan.

Pinaka is a multi-barrel rocket system developed by the state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Army to provide the existing artillery gun at ranges beyond 30km. The guided Pinaka is a transformed version of Pinaka Rocket Mark-II.

It is equipped with a guidance kit comprising of advanced navigation and control systems. The conversion enhanced the range and accuracy of the Pinaka weapon system The rocket system is expected to engage targets from a range of 20km to 80km.

According to Defence Ministry, the weapon system impacted intended targets with precision and achieved desired accuracies.
