DARPA announced on 4 April that it has completed flight-testing of a sub-scale version of an aircraft design as part of its vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) X-Plane program. The X-Plane aircraft has been developed and manufactured by Aurora Flight Sciences and will be designated as XV-24A.
According to DARPA's press release, during this phase aerodynamic design of the demonstrator aircraft has been tested along with validation of flight dynamics, and development of the flight and mission-systems controls for application to the full-scale vehicle. The XV-24A will weigh 5 thousand 440 kg and exceed the speed of 300 knots.
