The Greek Navy has signed a contract to procure ship-based CAMCOPTER® S-100 Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for deployment on its Frégate de Défense et d’Intervention (FDI) Belharra-class frigates. Under this agreement with the Vienna-based Schiebel Group, the supplied unmanned systems will operate on the HS Kimon, HS Nearchos, and HS Formion frigates, which have joined the naval inventory.
The first ship of the series, HS Kimon, which arrived in Greece in January 2026, will be equipped with the CAMCOPTER® S-100 system in spring 2026, coinciding with the completion of training for the first Greek crews. One of the procured systems will be operated from land to support both training processes and the enhancement of operator qualifications. The remaining S-100 systems are planned to be deployed on the HS Nearchos by late 2026 and HS Formion by early 2027, in line with the frigates’ delivery schedules.
FDI-Class Frigates and S-100 Integration
Built by French Naval Group, the frigates were pre-prepared for CAMCOPTER® S-100 integration during the design phase, allowing for rapid installation and operational readiness of the systems. Equipped with Wescam MX-10 EO/IR camera gimbal and Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch hardware, the S-100 systems will be employed in a wide range of missions, including maritime security, search-and-rescue operations, environmental monitoring, control of the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW).
Hans Georg Schiebel, President of Schiebel Group, expressed pride that the CAMCOPTER® S-100 was chosen by the Greek Navy as their UAS. Schiebel stated that the system’s proven maritime performance, range, and payload capacity will provide commanders with enhanced situational awareness and further strengthen the operational capabilities of the Greek Navy’s surface forces.
