The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has commissioned its first Littoral Mission Vessel, RSS Independence with pennant number 15, on 5 May at Changi Naval Base. The 80 m platform is the first of eight 1,250-tonne LMVs that are set to replace Singapore's 11 Fearless-class patrol vessels. Armed with one Oto Melara 76 mm main gun, two Oto Melara Hitrole 12.7 mm remote-controlled weapon stations, one Rafael 25 mm Typhoon gun system and MBDA's VL Mica anti-air missile system, the LMV can accomodate a medium-lift helicopter on its flight deck.
