Italian company Fincantieri delivered the second Multi-Purpose Combat Ship (MPCS) KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, built for the Indonesian Navy, in a ceremony. The event, held at Italy’s Muggiano shipyard, symbolizes the critical point reached in defense cooperation between the two countries.
The delivery ceremony was attended by Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy; Prof. Dr. Junimart Girsang, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Italy; Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri; Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Chief of the Italian Navy; and other senior officials.
A Strategic Force Multiplier in the Indo-Pacific Region
The 143-meter-long MPCS class, designed by Fincantieri, stands out as a strategic force multiplier in the Indo-Pacific region with its versatile design that meets modern naval combat requirements. Optimized to carry out a wide range of missions—from front-line combat operations to maritime patrol, search and rescue, and civil protection activities—this platform draws attention with its high-tech equipment. These advanced units, which have become critical for regional stability and the protection of Indonesia’s national maritime interests, rank among the most modern warships in the region, elevating the country’s defense capabilities.
Following the delivery of its sister ship KRI Brawijaya-320 in July, the addition of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 to the fleet marks the successful completion of Fincantieri’s two-ship supply process for Indonesia. These deliveries strengthen the Indonesian Navy by forming its largest combat units and consolidating the country’s naval power. Fincantieri’s management stated that this delivery reinforces its strategic partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and confirms its commitment to safer seas.
