The US Army's 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment assigned to Germany in support of Atlantic Resolve began installing reactive armor to its M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks on 28 February. The Abrams Reactive Armor Tiles (ARATs) are placed on both sides of the hull and turret in order to add extra layers of protection and prevent penetration by various weapon systems, such as rocket-propelled grenades.
