Dedicated Training Vessel of RoK

Republic of Korea's (RoK) Ministry of Defence announced on 17 July that final design studies of the RoK Navy's new training vessel has been completed and the construction is now set to begin in August this year. The shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has been awarded with a $228 million contract in June 2016 to construct the dedicated training ship.

The ATX will have a displacement of 4,500 tonnes and a top speed of 24 kt and will be fitted with six kinds of indigenously developed combat systems. The ship will be able to accommodate up to 300 trainees in addition to a crew complement of 100, and armed with a 76 mm naval gun as its main weapon, complemented with a 40 mm cannon.
