The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency have successfully completed an extensive series of tests aimed at enhancing the technological capabilities of the David’s Sling air defense system.
The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), operating under the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) within the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD), concluded the testing process conducted jointly with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Designed to intercept multidimensional threats such as rockets, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles, the advanced air defense system achieved full success in simulated challenging scenarios. The test series was developed based on operational lessons learned from recent conflicts. Trials encompassing a wide range of scenarios simulating current and emerging threats demonstrated the system’s interception capability. This success indicates a technological and operational leap following the system’s proven high performance in combat.
David’s Sling: The Strategic Core of Layered Defense
David’s Sling constitutes a central layer in Israel’s integrated air defense doctrine, operating alongside the Arrow weapon system, Iron Dome, and the recently delivered Iron Beam laser system. Development activities for the system continue under the coordination of IMDO within DDR&D, in cooperation with major defense industry companies and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Industrial Stakeholders of the Project and the Development Process
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems serves as the prime contractor for the system. The MMR radar, which carries out target detection for David’s Sling, was developed by ELTA Systems Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The command and control center, which forms the system’s decision-making mechanism, was developed by Elbit Systems. This strong industrial cooperation enables the system to remain up to date against modern threat perceptions.
