Thailand has announced it will go on a reprieve for two Yuan-class submarines it plans to procure. With the economic contraction brought by COVID-19, Thailand announced that the platforms it will buy from China will be in the 2022 financial year.
Yuan-class submarines have a Stirling-type air-independent drive system developed by the 711 Institute and high-frequency active radar.
If the supply plan worth about $720 million had come into force, Thailand would have inventoried the platforms by 2024.
The Thai government reached an agreement with China in 2017 for submarines.
