March 7, 2017Conscription Proposal by Sweden
The Swedish government is working on re-introducing compulsory military service by 1 January 2018. The government plans to recruit a total of 4 thousand military personnel for basic training in 2018 and 2019. According to the proposal, compulsory military service will last 12 months and the candidates are intended to be trained as professional soldiers. There will be no discrimination between the men and women to be recruited. Sweden mentions only lack of military personnel but it is widely speculated that Sweden has concerns with Russia.Â
