Chinook Block 3 on the Way

Boeing began the development process of the CH/MH-47 Chinook helicopters, which will start at the end of the 2020s, after which helicopters will be commissioned in the year 2040. The US Army Program Manager Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Klarenbach made statements about Blok 3 program. Development process will begin in 2027 and continue until 2040, and then the mass production phase will begin.

Boeing, who is currently conducting Block 2 upgrades, made the first announcement for Block 3 in May 2017. It is stated that the first  three prototypes of Block 2 is now in final-production. With the Block 3 Program, Chinook is planned to remain in service until the 2060s. There is no information about Block 3 program improvements to be made in helicopters. It is planned to integrate active parallel actuators and digital torque control systems in Block 2 and Block 3 helicopters, which are supposed to be equipped with Future Affordable Turbine Engine (FATE). It is also underlined that the Chinook Block 2 and 3 helicopters could possibly be optionally piloted, but these are some possible configurations told in statement.
