The US State Department approved a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft to Canada, announced on 12 September. 10 out of 18 aircraft ordered would be F/A-18E single seat variant while the remaining eight would be the F/A-18F two-seat variant.
Canada also requested eight General Electric F414-GE-400 engine spares, 10 Raytheon AN/APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars, 20 General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems M61A2 20mm gun systems, 28 Raytheon AN/ALR-67(V)3 electronic warfare countermeasure receiving sets, and 15 Lockheed Martin AN/AAQ-33 Sniper advanced targeting pods.
