In December 2017, the US President Donald Trump released his administration’s National Security Strategy and explained it in a 30-minute speech. The Preface, which appears at the very beginning of this document, is as important as the report itself with respect to the public psychology that it reflects.

In the Preface that he authored, President Trump maintains that the American people elected him to make America great again. He underscores his pledge to revitalise the American economy, rebuild the military, defend the borders and protect national sovereignty. He also states that he has kept his promises during his first year in office. Claiming that America is leading again on the world stage, Trump argues that his country faces a number of hardships and threats; however, they are not hiding from these challenges but rather confronting them head-on.
