BAE Systems signed a contract with the US Navy. Under the contract, BAE Systems will undertake the maintenance and modernization of the USS Kearsarge, an amphibious assault ship class of the US Navy, from April 2023.
According to the contract, USS Kearsarge’s preparation for maintenance will begin in April. Beginning in June, the 843-foot-long vessel will be deployed at BAE Systems’ Norfolk shipyard for approximately one year. BAE Systems is expected to complete work on the ship in January 2025.
The contract, which includes the maintenance and modernization works of the USS Kearsarge amphibious assault ship, is worth $294.7 million. The contract also includes options that, if exercised, could reach a value of $340.3 million.
Mike Bruneau, Vice President and General Manager, BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair said: ‘’ The extended maintenance period on board the USS Kearsarge provides a great environment to apply BAE Systems’ significant experience and production skills on ships of the same class and supports business stability in our shipyard and supply base. Thanks to our maintenance and modernization efforts, the Kearsarge will be operational for many years to come.’’
