Azerbaijan procured the SOM missiles from Turkey according to AzeriDefence news. According to the report, SOM's first export customer, Azerbaijan, procured the B1 variant of the system.
The system is expected to be exhibited for the first time in the parade of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces on June 26th. The model to be exhibited has seen in Azerbaijan streets in the past days.
The MiG-21, MiG-29 and Su-25 aircrafts in Azerbaijan's inventory which are capable of carrying SOM as a payload, but the missileis more likely to be integrated into the MiG-29 aircraft. Integration procedure of SOM's J model into F-35 aircraft still continues.
The B1 variant of the SOM missile, which has five different models, is four meters long. The system weighs approximately 600 kilograms, with 230 kilograms of high explosive pressure / particle effective warheads. SOM has a infrared imaging search system and precision navigation system and has a range of 250+ kilometers.
