ASELSAN’s Korkut in the Sea: GÖKDENİZ

The GÖKDENİZ Close Air Defence System for Marine Platforms (YHSS), which was developed as a result of the adaptation of KORKUT Self-Propelled Gun Barrelled Low-Altitude Air Defence Weapon System to marine platforms under the scope of the contract executed by the Presidency for Defence Industries, was introduced at IDEF’19 at ASELSAN’s stand with the participation of the President of Defence Industries Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ASELSAN Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, ASELSAN authorities and sector representatives.

ASELSAN revelead its experience in the field of air defence through the launch of the Close Air Defence System. Previously known as Korkut-D, the system was renamed GÖKDENİZ. The system will provide ships with air defence capability against guided anti-ship missiles as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft and helicopters. The system will also be effective against asymmetric surface threats nearby. The system will use 35 mm Air Burst Ammunition (ATOM) developed by ASELSAN. The system will provide an effective ship self-defence solution against current aerial threats along with ATOM.

The system can perform target detection, identification, tracking and destruction can be fully autonomously. 3-D search radar, fire control radar and electro-optical (E/O) sensors in the system enables it to be used efficiently at night and under adverse weather conditions. The system can be operated by an operator or can perform its tasks fully automatically without the need for the operator. Two different types of ammunition can be loaded into the system and the desired ammunition type can be selected by using the Automatic Linkless Ammunition Feed Mechanism in the system. In this way, the most effective ammunition type can be used against different target types and air defence is provided in the most cost-effective manner.
