The US State Department has released a potential $700 million sale to Switzerland, Lithuania and Belgium. With these sales, it is predicted that Switzerland, which is our side, will modernize its air power by 2030.

Switzerland currently has approval to purchase 72 Raytheon Technologies-made Patriot missiles. According to the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the agreement also includes logistics and technical support as well as missile technology.

The DSCA said 15 November Tuesday that the missiles will enhance the Patriot air defence system, which is used to defend Switzerland’s territorial integrity. Since 2018, the government has attempted to purchase aircraft and ground-based missiles with a budget of more than $8 billion. Patriot missiles are also among the weapons on the list.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved a possible foreign military sale of $495 million to Lithuania and $380 million to Belgium last weeks. Lithuania has received approval to receive eight Lockheed Martin-made HIMARS, 36 GMLRS and other related logistics support. According to DSCA’s statement, these weapons will support the modernization of the Lithuanian army and will be used in defence against regional threats.

Defence systems such as HIMARS and GMLRS have become an even more remarkable system since the Russia-Ukraine war that started in February.

At the same time, the green light was given for Belgium to purchase 120 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles, 10 AMRAAM C-8 guidance divisions and other logistics support for arms sales. In a statement from DSCA, it was stated that the country will use these missiles to keep its F-16 and F-35 fleets ready for battle.
