Japan continues to studies for replacing the systems in its inventory and to have a stronger army structure.

Tokyo will acquire 12 additional Type 10 main battle tanks to replace the Type 74s that are at the end of their economic life. The procurement list announced with the new budget plan, which is published, also includes a Type 19 155 mm truck-mounted howitzers. The Ministry of Defence plans to acquire seven Type 19 in 2020 with 44 million USD budget.

The mass production of platforms, which is looking like the mixture of Leclerc and Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks, started in 2010. The protection level of the platforms, which equipped with 120 mm 44 calibre barrel, can be increased in the field conditions according to the task requirement. Equipped with a 52-caliber 155 mm main, system is based on the MAN truck chassis. Type 19 stands out for its features such as automatic gun-laying and loading systems.

Japan, which has recently built an important highway infrastructure in the country, reaches an important fast intervention ability with the wheeled vehicles it takes in its inventory. The fact that most systems can be carried from the air enables the platforms to be advantageous in the defence of the homeland, as well as enabling the country to be transferred to the islands chain from the air.
