German maritime technology company Anschütz has announced a major modernization of its SYNAPSIS Integrated Navigation System platform developed for warships. With a newly developed data interface, SYNAPSIS has also been made fully compatible with the widely used AEGIS Combat System.
Anschütz has developed a new software module and data interface that enhance the capabilities of the SYNAPSIS navigation platform. This innovation enables the platform to establish a direct connection with the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplexer System (GEDMS) used on ships equipped with the AEGIS Combat System.
Developed for Hunter-Class Frigates
The integration was implemented in 2025 as part of the Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge System (WINBS) program for the Hunter-class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy. The newly developed capability is also considered a strategic step in the digital evolution of the SYNAPSIS architecture.

Modular Architecture that Reduces Risk
Anschütz officials stated that the introduction of the GEDMS interface further strengthens the platform’s modular and scalable architecture. For navies and shipyards, this new approach means reduced technical risks, simplified integration processes, and improved data consistency across fleets.
The AEGIS Combat System, developed by Lockheed Martin, is actively used by the United States Navy and several allied navies. Meanwhile, the SYNAPSIS system by Anschütz is currently in service on more than 1,200 platforms worldwide, including the Type 26 frigate, Type 31 frigate, F125-class frigate, and K130 corvette classes.
