Hastings Lionel Ismay was born in 1887 in India, Nainital, as a subject of the mighty British Empire, on which the sun never set. He was educated in Britain, eventually graduating from the Royal Military College. Throughout the First World War, he served in a very special unit. In British Somaliland, he was the Commander of the “Camel Corps.” Following the war, he continued his services in the British forces deployed in India. Afterwards, he moved to London. To cut the long story short, he became the military “wingman” of Prime Minister Churchill during the Second World War.
