The US Navy is aiming to expand its ship fleet with Aegis ballistic missile defence system. According to the Congressional Research Service (CRS) report, in fiscal year 2023 the number of Aegis equipped destroyers and cruisers is planned to increase by 50%.

Currently, 38 Aegis ships are operating in the US Navy. Within the fiscal year 2019, it is planned to reach 41 Aegis ships in navy and in fiscal year 2023, it is aimed total of 57 ships at the end of fiscal year. According to the same report, 31 of the 57 Aegis ships will be equipped most advanced version of Aegis which is Aegis BL9.C2.
